#GIRLBOSS Book & SAVVY Motivation

We here at SAVVY love a good book. In between, marketing, PR, social posts, events and personal life...we try squeezing a good inspiring read into the mix. Because we have stumbled across so many good, inspiring books - we wanted to recommend some to our SAVVY followers.

First up on the list, our favorite motivating book for the woman (or man) looking for inspiration to break free from the norm.

Author: Sophia Amoruso

A little background before we dive into this book. SAVVY West Coast Marketing was started by a #girlboss San Diego native looking to break free from the corporate world and dive into the self-made, self-owned, self-starter world. This book was the inspiration behind the beginnings of this company and we felt it appropriate to kick off this book club with one of the more 'sentimental' books.

Without giving too much away, this autobiographical book discusses how Sophia went from job hoping to Nasty Gal's founder (and former CEO). Though there are product placement and brand advertising moments (towards the end, which we expected) the overall message that YOU can do it. Whatever it is you set your mind too was a powerful message for us when reading.

If you have $10-$20 to drop on this book to read, great. You won't regret it. If you prefer saving your cash (which we understand and also support) we want to give you a #girlboss inspired takeaway and here it goes...

The world has a way of making you feel small. Sometimes your dreams and goals don't seem realistic or achievable - especially if you let the media, your friends, people who know you get in your ear. Being safe in life is, well, safe. Don't let your fears hold you back from your dreams because life really is too short. It's not worth living a life that you find yourself unhappy in. If you are in a routine that has you uninspired, make a change. If you don't make a change, you may be forced into one - the universe has a way of shaking things up (take it from us we know this first hand). You've read all those cheesy motivation quotes....'the biggest risk in life is the risk you didn't take' yadda yadda yadda. But they are TRUE!

Jim Carrey wrote a 20 million dollar check to himself - he lived, breathed, dreamed that he was a successful actor well before he made it in the industry. He envisioned his success and less than 5 years later landed the 'Dumb and Dumber' series where he profited around 20 million dollars. We aren't saying you will make $20 million dollars like Jim Carrey but we are saying that hard work, goal setting, risk taking and visualizing success may take you places you never imagined. Take the leap. Whatever leap it is. You won't regret it.
