New York Fashion Week
From the 7th to the 13th of September the whose who of fashion puts on a show to display the Spring trends of 2018. This is one of four major fashion weeks in the world. Better known as "the big four." It's in this week thatfashion designers, editors, celebrities, models, buyers and make-up artists descend upon the city to see what's the new it trend for 2018.
Over the years we have seen some epic trends from denim, florals, velour to animal prints and parachute pants to come out of the New York fashion week. We have seen the whose who of designers, celebrities and models change our view of fashion again and again. And to think it all began at the Plaz hotel in 1943 by Eleanor Lambert. She was a press director of the New York dress institute. She wanted to direct fashion away from France during WWII and showcase American designers to fashion journalists. She named the event "Press week of New York." To her surprise it was a huge success.
However, American fashion still had a way to go in comparison to couture. It wasn't until the 70's that American fashion really jumped back into the spotlight. Now NYFW is held twice a year. Once in September and then again in February. We can thank Eleanor for all the trends to come out of the NYFWs over the years.
